7 Foot Diameter Wind Turbine Kit

7 Foot Diameter 300 Watt Wind turbine

Installed 7 foot diameter wind turbine on a 50 foot tower.

DUE TO A BACKLOG OF ORDERS, WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING ORDERS FOR THIS ITEM. Please Email us for more information on when this alternator will be available again.

This is a smaller version of our axial flux wind turbine. It's a single rotor, 7 foot diameter machine conservatively rated at 300 Watts. (we have seen peaks over 800 Watts, in machines we've tested we've seen continuous 500 Watt output, but we prefer to rate things conservatively).

Due to it's smaller size, and lower power output, we feel this design is especially appropriate for 12 Volt systems. Our 10 foot diameter wind turbine can peak well over 1200 Watts, which is difficult to handle at 12 V. This smaller machine is appropriate for the smaller, lower power 12V systems

This machine is ready to go on your tower top with the exception of a little wood finishing and a bit of assembly. The machine is of our own design but very similar and very much inspired by Hugh Piggotts designs. The machine is manufactured here in our off grid shop mostly with wind and solar power. We have been building this basic design now for 5 years. With many machines now in the field we feel the bugs are worked out and we feel confident offering them for sale. Several of our machines have survived 3-5 years in the field with no problems and no maintenance (although we do recommend yearly maintenance).

Included is the assembled alternator, blades, tail vane, all necessary hardware to assemble the machine, and a USERS MANUAL. The users manual is specifically for the 10 foot diameter machine, but it is basically the same and everything applies to this machine. All that remains for you to do is apply finish to the wooden parts (blades, blade hubs and tail vane) and assemble the turbine. You will also need to provide your own tower, 3 phase rectifier, diversion regulator and all other parts of the system. This machine is designed to charge batteries, you need to specify when you order if you want it setup for 12, 24, or 48V, although - we feel this design is especially suitable to 12 Volt systems!

This is a 7 foot diameter turbine conservatively rated at 300 Watts, although the we have seen sustained output of 500 Watts and peaks over 800. The blades are beautifully hand carved from Western Red Cedar. All of the holes are drilled in the blades and the hub so assembly is simple and straight forward. Once the blades are finished, and assembled - you will need to balance them on the wind turbine.

Pictured above is a finished 7 foot diameter wind turbine in our small wind powered fabrication shop.

All of the metal work is powder coated. When we build the machine, we first powder coat the magnet rotors and all the rest of the metal work. We put 12 2 inch diameter x 1/2 inch thick magnets on the single magnet rotor and then band the rotor with stainless steel and cast vinyl ester resin mixed with alumina trihydrate and chopped fiberglass around the magnets. The alternator runs on a common trailer hub which utilizes very common/inexpensive tapered roller bearings.

We wind the coils, fabricate the stator and cast it here. You will need to specify your system voltage when you order. The machine begins to furl to the side in winds over 25 mph limiting the sustained output to about 400 Watts. You can add a bit more weight to the tail if you require more power in higher winds but we prefer to keep things slow and cool running. Most of your energy is available in lighter/average winds so we don't get so worried about 'peak' output.

A wind power system is a significant investment so be sure that you realize what you are getting into before you get in too deep. We have a Users Manual that you can either buy here, or down load free HERE. You should read this users manual before you buy - it contains a lot of useful information about the machine and the rest of the system. Hopefully if you are considering this purchase you have a good understanding of renewable energy systems, wind power, and the basic design of this machine. If you do not have a good understanding of this stuff, please take some time to read our website. Check out Dan Finks articles HERE, HERE, and HERE. And again - be sure you either purchase, or download the USERS MANUAL before you buy.

This item ships in 3 boxes, it is large and heavy. It will usually ship via UPS ground and at this time we will only ship the complete wind turbine kit to the US or Canada. If you are not within the US or Canada please email us before you order and we will discuss shipping options.

We build these to order so please plan on 2 - 4 weeks for delivery.

DUE TO A BACKLOG OF ORDERS, WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING ORDERS FOR THIS ITEM. Please Email us for more information on when this alternator will be available again.
